|LANCASHIRE CEMETERY INDEX|
|Many cemeteries, especially those without a staffed office, do not have a post code.
For the benefit of those people wishing to use a
Sat-Nav to find a cemetery, I have used the postcode of a nearby house, church, or business.
|The whereabouts of cemetery records is the latest information available and is taken from the
website of the appropriate authority.
Where this was unclear - and some websites are not very informative - I contacted them by telephone or e-mail for clarification.
|Due to the nature of this type of index there will almost certainly be errors and omissions. Contact
details are especially problematic
as people and organizations have a habit of changing their e-mail addresses and telephone numbers without warning. I will be revising
and updating the information as and when new information becomes available.
|Many older cemeteries are now closed to new burials but will permit burials in existing graves or the
scattering of ashes, etc. Older
records have often been deposited in the local record office but records of these more recent burials will usually be held at the cemetery,
crematorium, or the relevant local authority office.
|With the exception of municipal cemeteries that were originally church graveyards, I have not included churchyard burial grounds in this list as that information is available elsewhere.|
