LANCASHIRE CEMETERY INDEX

The Victoria County History of Lancashire lists only two places in Lancashire with names beginning with V:

THE VALE* was a hamlet in the neighbourhood of Shevington. It is not shown on the 6" Ordnance Survey map (sheet 85) but is now known as Shevinghton Vale, near Appley Bridge, Standish.

The nearest municipal cemeteries would be Gidlow Cemetery at Standish, about 4 miles east; and Church Road Cemetery in Skelmersdale, about 7 miles southwest.

VICKERSTOWN is on the Isle of Walney near Barrow-in-Furness. The VCH describes it as, "a model town constructed by the Vickers Maxim company for their workman".

The nearest municipal cemetery is Barrow Cemetery, about 2.5 miles northeast.

  * I realize that The Vale is a bit of a cheat - but it is listed under V in the VCH index.
