James Swarbrick was born in April 1881 in Preston the eight child of ten children born to Robert and Ann [Grimshaw] Swarbrick. He was baptised at St Luke's Church, Preston on 1st May 1881. In 1901 he and his brother Harry were working as farm labourers in Broughton. He married Mary Ann Drinkall on 9th July 1910 at the Parish Church, Goosnargh. In 1911 he and Mary Ann were living at 4, Clara Street, Preston and James was working as a carter. James Swarbrick was listed in 1924 as one of the contributors to the fund for the Preston War Memorial. His address at that time was 4, Clara Street, Preston. James died aged 81 years and was buried on 16 August 1962 at Preston Cemetery.
